Enabling Managers “Internalise the People Agenda” at Asian Paints

This project brought to fore our skills in converting an esoteric thought shared by the client, into a real time bound action plan with tangible results that could be measured.

‘’Pehlay jaisa nahin raha…’’ – Things have changed from how they used to be in the past. Usually said with a certain degree of remorse.

Asian Paints had picked up this feedback from their business partners, ecosystem of dealers and distributers, who have stayed loyal to the company for decades.

Our ability to grasp the subtle nuances of the client context, design an intervention to address the issue, along with a robust process, stood out for the client.

Asian Paints is one of the largest Indian paint company & manufacturer, offering a wide range of painting & waterproofing solutions for homes, offices etc. With a turnover of Rs. 140 billion, it is Asia’s third largest paint company. Besides Asian Paints, the group operates around the world through its subsidiaries Berger International Limited, Apco Coatings Limited, SCIB Paints and Taubmans.

Asian Paints had charted out its strategic 5 year plan for the period 2013-18. One of the key initiatives identified by the organization for achievement of this strategic plan was enabling its 1000 plus People Managers to “Internalize the People Agenda”.

We at Aventus Partners, partnered with an empowered group of leaders (“QUAT” – a cross functional group) from within the company in anchoring this initiative.

Over a 7 month period of intense work, we designed and anchored a Change Management Process that enabled the organization to define the end state and secure buy-in across stakeholder groups on the solutions and action steps that would help them transition to the desired end state.

Implementation plans were signed off by the executive team and handed over to the HR Leadership team for a phased organisation wide roll out.

The initiatives designed were clustered around 3 key themes of:

─ Understanding the People Management Role and Skills to Perform the Role,

─ Creating Organizational Enablers,

─ Measurement of Progress
